El Paso ISD artists showcase the healing powers of art at ‘HeARTs that Heal’ exhibit
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Sept. 22, 2022) – Elementary through high school students' visual expression and interpretation of the healing powers of art will be on display in the EPISD Art Gallery beginning this week through Nov. 4.
The opening reception for "HeARTs that Heal” is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The exhibit features the works of 60 students.
“I was amazed by the talent we have in EPISD,” said Andrea Smith, visual art facilitator. “We wanted them to showcase all those people, places or things that helped them through the healing process. We had hearts from our chests and hearts of love. The kids did a good job interpreting it.”
Young Women’s Academy freshman Marium Zahra’s interpretation feature a human heart.
“In this piece, I tried to embrace negativity and violence but also express how there is always a more peaceful brighter side,” she said.
Seventh-grader Itzel Duran’s piece incorporates her passion for music.
“When I listen to music, it takes me somewhere else,” she said. “I like to listen to relaxing music when I draw to express my feelings.”
