El Paso ISD embraces community engagement with 'Reconnect EPISD' Walk on Sept. 8

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Sept. 6, 2023) — Amid the celebration of national Attendance Awareness Month, the El Paso Independent School District intends to bolster its connections with the community and offer pathways for students to complete their educational journeys during the Reconnect EPISD Attendance/Recovery Walk beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8.

Attendance is the No. 1 predictor of student success and Reconnect EPISD is a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and emphasizing the importance of regular school attendance. By creating opportunities for El Paso ISD administrators and staff to connect with parents, community leaders, and local organizations, this event will symbolize the collective effort to ensure every student’s success.

“Reconnect EPISD represents our commitment to address the unique needs of our students and foster a supportive environment where they can thrive,” said EPISD Superintendent, Diana Sayavedra. “This walk allows us to come together as a community, reaffirm our dedication to their success, and celebrate the power of connection.”

During the walk, El Paso ISD administrative team members will visit with families at their homes to outline a plan for students to maintain or resume their educational paths after the challenges faced during the previous school year. The event will serve as a powerful reminder that every day of school matters, and that every student’s presence plays a vital role in their academic and personal growth. The Reconnect EPISD Attendance/Recovery Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the district’s Administration Building, 1014 N. Stanton St.

El Paso ISD invites all community members, parents, and education advocates to join the Reconnect EPISD Attendance/Recovery Walk and demonstrate their unwavering support for student success. By ensuring strong connections that are vital for academic achievement, we can create an inclusive environment that inspires and empowers students to thrive. Another walk is scheduled for Sept. 20 with plans for more throughout the year already in the works.

Reconnect EPISD joins another impactful attendance initiative scheduled for this month. The district’s Show Up, You Matter campaign, which celebrates campuses doing exemplary work to get students to show up consistently, will recognize the first set of campuses with positive attendance figures in two weeks. Superintendent Sayavedra and other El Paso ISD leaders will visit campuses throughout the year to show appreciation to teachers, administrators, staff, and parents for all they do to make sure students have safe and comfortable environments.
