EPISD earns top honors in financial reporting
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- June 13, 2019) — EPISD once again received national recognition for going above and beyond in their financial reporting and public transparency efforts.
For the second consecutive year, EPISD received both the Government Finance Officers Association of the United State and Canada’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting; and the Association of School Business Officials International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award.
Both awards recognize the work done by EPISD’s Financial Services Department with the 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, also known as CAFR.
“I am proud of the perseverance and dedication the EPISD Financial Services Department showed in producing a CAFR that showcases transparency and accountability,” said Maria D. Pineda, EPISD’s executive director of financial services.
The organizations recognized EPISD’s commitment to inform parents, taxpayers and other stakeholders about the fiscal and economic state of the District. The CAFR is an important public tool that builds trust and engages the community in the day-to-day operation of the District.
To earn the awards, EPISD’s CAFR was submitted to a panel of independent judges that gauged whether the information met or exceeded established financial-reporting standards that include a spirit of full disclosure, clear communication of the district’s financial story, and ease of use by users who wish to peruse the document.
