EPISD Student Spotlight: Lessley Poot, Bowie High
(BOWIE HIGH SCHOOL Nov. 12, 2020) — Bowie varsity cheerleader Lessley Poot tries keep up the Oso spirit during the pandemic by balancing her academics with extracurricular activities. She has proudly served as a JROTC all four years of high school – earning medals and other accolades throughout. In this edition of the EPISD Student Spotlight, we speak with Poot who plans to enroll at UTEP after graduation to become a labor and delivery nurse. Here is our take surviving her senior year during the pandemic.
EPISD COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: How are you staying motivated and involved in school during the pandemic?
LESSLEY POOT: I’m staying motivated and involved in school during the pandemic is by participating in my classes and going to JROTC and cheerleading practice.
CE: What advice can you give to succeeding with remote learning?
LP: The advice that I can give to succeeding in online learning is don’t give up, It may be a hard time but everything will be worth it at the end.
CE: What are you doing to make the most of your senior year despite the pandemic?
LP: What I do to enjoy my senior year is by getting to know new people in my classes, going to practices and attending games when health guidelines allow.
CE: What advice would you give incoming freshman?
LP: The advice that I give to upcoming freshman is to enjoy you first year of high school, get involved in any school activities and don’t be afraid to try something new.
CE: How do you keep up the Bowie spirit as a cheerleader during COVID?
LP: I keep my school spirit as a cheerleader during this pandemic is by making a short video with my teammates showing spirit of our school.
CE: What made you want to be part of JROTC and how has it changed for you during COVID?
LP: What made me be part of JROTC was that they talked about things you’ll need in life and it’s a lot of discipline. With the pandemic, it has changed because we don’t get to practice marching, formations and more important things like first aid, CPR, income.
CE: What is the first thing you plan to do when the pandemic is over?
LP: The first thing I would love to do when this pandemic is over is to go visit my teachers and my family members.
