El Paso ISD Appoints S.B. Pierson as Chief Operations Officer
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Nov. 28, 2023) — The El Paso Independent School District has appointed S.B. Pierson as the district’s new chief operations officer (COO) to play a pivotal role in providing operational leadership across all functional areas of the region’s largest public education institution.
A distinguished academic and operations leader, Pierson brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to fostering collaborative efforts with district and community stakeholders to create an optimal learning environment for student success. Reporting directly to the superintendent and serving as a member of the executive cabinet, he will leverage his extensive experience to enhance the district's operational efficiency and contribute to the continued academic excellence of students and the broader school community.
With a career spanning across various leadership roles, Pierson most recently served as the executive director of ancillary services and school operations at Cleveland (Texas) ISD. His previous roles include assistant superintendent of administration and operations at Wharton ISD and executive director of school operations and student services at Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD. Notably, his experience extends to coaching, teaching and a stint as an interim principal, roles that reflect a comprehensive understanding of the educational landscape.
As a seasoned operations executive, Mr. Pierson has overseen critical aspects of district operations. His responsibilities have included managing facilities, plant operations, maintenance, custodial services, school safety, transportation and food services. His achievements include leading the planning and organization of an $80 million school bond for new construction, successfully implementing security measures, and conducting forums on drug testing and bullying. Additionally, he has demonstrated success in improving curriculum and instruction, reducing teacher turnover rates, and implementing effective intervention and enrichment programs.
Pierson is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Lions Club, Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of School Business Officials, Texas Rural Education Association, Texas Association of Mid-Size Schools, Association of Texas Professional Educators, Texas High School Coaches Association and Texas High School Athletic Directors Association.
Pierson earned a master’s in education leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor of science in kinesiology with a special education minor from Angelo State University.
