Interested in a U.S. Service Academy? Rep. Escobar is now accepting nominations
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- Sept. 17, 2020) — Seniors interested in the distinct honor of a service academy appointment can start the nomination process now through Congresswoman Veronica Escobar’s website.
Appointments to the U.S. Military Academy West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy or U.S. Merchant Marine Academy require at least nine-year service obligation including four years at an academy and five years of active duty service. Criteria for eligibility, nominations, evaluations, character, academic record, leadership, physical aptitude and mental fitness are available on Congresswoman Escobar’s website at https://escobar.house.gov/services/service-academy-nominations-info.htm.
Deadline to submit applications to the congresswoman’s office is 5 p.m. on Nov. 16.
A nomination is only one of the requirements for matriculation at one of the nation's service academies. Students also must apply directly to each service academy individually.
