Irvin High School celebrates 60th commencement, first Rocket New Tech graduation
IRVIN HIGH SCHOOL -- May 24, 2019) — The students who received diplomas at the Don Haskins Center on Friday evening celebrated two important milestones: Irvin High School’s 60th graduation in school history and the first-ever Rocket New Tech STEAM Academy commencement.
Irvin students, alumni and community members celebrated their school’s storied past as well as the newly-achieved academic, extra-curricular and athletic accolades.
“We know that 60 years ago there were people just like us, wearing robes just like ours that dared to dream big,” said Andres Ramirez, the Class of 2019 salutatorian.
The valedictorian for the class is Sara Elizabeth Blanco.
Principal MaryAnna Giba said the 273 students who received their diplomas on Friday will join the nearly 23,000 Irvin alumni who have graduated from the Northeast school.
In total, the Class of 2019 has earned $4.3 million in scholarships and funding for post-secondary education and training.
