Franklin High School graduates 630 students
(FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL -- May 27, 2019) — The members of Franklin High School’s Class of 2019 received their high-school diplomas Monday afternoon in a ceremony marked with poignant speeches, touching tributes and a commitment to lifelong learning.
“Parents, you have the most amazing children,” Principal Shawn Mena said. “Thank you for lending them to Franklin High School for the last four years.”
A total of 629 students made up the Class of 2019, and this group included the first graduates under the innovative Cougar New Tech program.
Mena pointed out that Franklin is one of the most prolific schools nationwide in raising scholarships for students. The class raised an astounding $46 million in scholarships and funding for post-secondary education.
One student, Nathaniel Nemenzo, was surprised with the announcement during the ceremony that he was the recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from the Make a Wish Foundation.
The ceremony, which happened during Monday’s Memorial Day observation, included a moment of silence for the men and women of the military who have died in defense of the country.
Franklin’s Class of 2019 valedictorian is Lana Quinn Murphree and the salutatorian is Melchor Herrera.
