Lincoln teacher gets full-ride scholarship for graduate school
(LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL -- May 30, 2019) — Erika Castaño, an Active Learning Leader at Lincoln, is working on earning a master’s degree to better serve the students at her school. Now, thanks to a surprise announcement, she won’t have to pay for it.
A representative from Ashford University in San Diego surprised Castaño at the school earlier this month with a full scholarship to pursue her masters in curriculum and instruction.
She is the only educator in the country who received the scholarship from among the dozens of teachers vying for the award.
She expects to begin the online program this summer. The application for the scholarship, worth approximately $38,000, is only open to teachers from the No Excuses University Network of Schools.
“I’m overwhelmed with happiness –very proud and grateful,” Castaño said. “It’s going to take me to the next level in my career and I will be able to help the teachers and students more with the new tools I am going to get.”
