EPISD earns two financial transparency awards
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Oct. 8, 2020) — EPISD’s efforts to present an accurate and transparent account of its finances have earned two important awards for financial reporting transparency three years in a row.
The District earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), as well as the Certificate of Excellence from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).
The awards recognize financial reporting done by the District during the fiscal year that ended in June 2019.
“These awards demonstrate our continued commitment of full disclosure with the community. Tax payers in the District should be comforted to know that EPISD is showcasing sound and transparent accounting practices to be good stewards of their money,” said Maria Pineda, EPISD’s executive director of financial services.
GFOA began the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting in 1945 to encourage and assist governmental entities to go beyond the minimum requirements of accounting principles in preparing their financial reports for the community.
ASBO began its Certificate of Excellence Program to encourage and recognize excellence and transparency in the preparation and issuance of U.S. school district’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
