Mask mandate update in EPISD
Oct. 5, 2021
At its meeting on October 4, 2021, the Board of Trustees voted to suspend the district’s current mask mandate and continue to follow Local Health Authority Orders, to the extent they are in effect. Further, the Board authorized the Interim Superintendent to resume a mask mandate if required by Local Health Authority Orders.
The mandate suspension comes after the City of El Paso suspended its mask mandate for all city buildings and school districts.
This means that as of now, the district is not requiring or enforcing the wearing of masks for students, employees, or visitors to our facilities. However, we continue to highly recommend wearing face coverings as we continue to layer our approach to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Anyone who wishes to continue the practice of wearing masks is free to do so.
The district will continue COVID-19 mitigation strategies such as enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of all buildings and high touch surface areas. We also will continue our collaborative efforts in sponsoring COVID-19 vaccination clinics for individuals ages 12 and above.
As in the past, we ask for respect of the individual choices made regarding the wearing of face coverings. We also ask that you please stay home if at any time you are experiencing illness or symptoms of illness. With everyone’s cooperation and our mitigation efforts, we will continue to keep everyone safe and healthy.
