(JEFFERSON/SILVA HIGH SCHOOL -- Jan. 19, 2022) — The El Paso Independent School District on Wednesday announced the appointment of Yong Vega as the permanent principal at Jefferson/Silva High School following a four-month period as the campus interim principal.

An educator with nearly 15 years of experience, Vega has spent her entire career in education in EPISD – first as a math teacher at Jefferson and then as a campus administrator at different campuses. Before arriving at Jefferson/Silva as interim principal, she served as assistant principal at Franklin and Coronado high schools, and as a campus testing coordinator at Austin High School.

“Ms. Vega brings with her a wealth of knowledge and a desire to help the students at Jefferson and Silva reach the academic and life goals they have set for themselves,” said Superintendent Diana Sayavedra. “I am confident her leadership skills and passion for education will serve the Jeff and Silva communities well.”

Vega has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Sul Ross State University. She also is a graduate of EPISD’s Leadership Institute.
