330 Andress Eagles earned diplomas Wednesday at the Don Haskins Center
(ANDRESS HIGH SCHOOL -- June 8, 2022) — The Andress Eagles walked across the stage at the Don Haskins Center Wednesday for Day 5 of the El Paso ISD Graduation Season.
The Class of 2022 earned more than $5 million in scholarships and many seniors — including 9 who earned an International Baccalaureate Diploma — are continuing their education at prestigious universities such as the U.S. Air Force Academy and Stanford University. The 330-strong class is led by valedictorian Hazel Marie Quintana and salutatorian Arlet Ramirez, both IB diploma candidates. This year’s All-Andress Boy and Girl are Isaac Padilla and Jazmyne Slocum.
Padilla’s remarks paid tribute to the late Jim Forbes, Andress’ legendary basketball who left a legacy of excellence both on the court and off. Forbes died earlier this year during basketball season.
“He taught me as well as others to never settle. He was a man who not only helped us achieve in basketball, but also how to be a person of integrity,” Padilla said. “He made you want to be a better player, but more importantly a better person.”
Ramirez closed the graduation ceremony with advice for her classmates.
“Wherever life may take you always keep moving forward, do not allow people to prevent you from accomplishing remarkable things,” she said. “I was once told by counselor Mr. Bazan ‘a train doesn’t stop for a squirrel,’ so keep pushing forward no matter how difficult your circumstances may get. Remember to be kind, be ambitious, and do not underestimate your potential to persevere.”
