Parent Safety Notice – 2016 Bond Construction Projects

Starting in the upcoming school year (18-19), your child may be attending one of the 16 schools in EPISD that will begin major construction as part of the 2016 Bond program.

Campuses that will be affected by construction include: Andress High School, Austin High School, Burges High School, Coronado High School, El Paso High School, Jefferson/Silva High School, Irvin High School, Bradley Elementary, Collins Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Dowell Elementary, Hughey Elementary, Johnson Elementary, Henderson Middle, Lincoln Middle, MacArthur Intermediate, Ross Middle, Terrace Hills Middle .

EPISD, along with its bond management partners at Jacobs, is taking measures to ensure that all construction zones on our campuses are safe for every student, employee and visitor.

EPISD would like to provide you with some construction safety information in anticipation of the start of the school year:

  • Construction will occur on different areas of the campus according to a phasing plan created by the school administrators and campus’ general contractor.

  • Construction work areas will be kept segregated from staff and students through adequate fencing and bulkheads.

  • Work areas will be protected with cones, barriers, warning signs or if necessary, construction employees, to ensure work areas are safe for students and staff.

  • The general contractor will work to ensure dust and noise are controlled properly, in order for the school to maintain teaching schedules without interruptions.

  • If your child has asthma or phono phobia we recommend planning for accommodations with your school administration ahead of time.

Please be aware that during the duration of construction, parent drop-off zones and student evacuation plans may change according to the construction phase. EPISD, Jacobs, and the general contractors will ensure that maps and information are provided to schools in advance, so parents, faculty and students are aware of any changes.

Given all the various construction activity that will take place over the next several years, we ask that you work with us to ensure that we maintain a safe and healthy environment. Please talk to your child about being careful around the campus, to stay away from any construction areas, and to respect construction sites, workers, and equipment.

Together we can ensure that the highest degree of safety procedures are maintained and followed, and that we minimize disturbances for everyone involved.

We look forward to getting projects started and providing our students with 21st Century learning environments. If you have any questions regarding construction on your campus please visit our website www.episd.org/episdbond2016 or e-mail questions to episdbond@episd.org.

Thank you in advance for your help, patience, and understanding.
