Know before you go: Chapin faces Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt in regional semifinal
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — March 2, 2023) — The No. 18-ranked Chapin High School boys basketball team will be one side of a state top 25 clash in the regional semifinal round of the UIL Class 5A playoffs. The Huskies (29-6) take the floor at 6 p.m. CST Friday at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas, against No. 9 Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt (20-10).
The Huskies, who are No. 18 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll, arrived at the regional semifinal round by defeating Parkland 56-53 on Tuesday in a momentous regional quarterfinal played at the Don Haskins Center. Wyatt, which is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, reached the regional semis after a 61-57 win against Burleson Centennial on Tuesday.
The matchup between the Huskies and Chaparrals will be the latter half of a Class 5A Region I tournament doubleheader. It will be preceded by the game between Amarillo and Mansfield Summit, which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Gates for the first contest will open at 3 p.m. Friday. Tickets cost $10 and will be sold at the door. There will be no re-entry allowed during or between games. No noise-making devices, balloons or confetti will be allowed in the arena. Handheld signs are allowed.
The Class 5A Region I championship game will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday.
