EPISD students learn the science of hockey
(EL PASO RHINOS ARENA — Nov. 16, 2018) -- Students from throughout El Paso, including more than 100 from Tom Lea Elementary School, put on their warm sweaters and watched the University of Texas at El Paso hockey team battle East Texas Baptist University — all in the name of science ... ice science.
The students saw the Miners beat the Tigers 5-3 and then came on the ice to meet the players and get some amazing lessons on how ice hockey can be played in the warm desert.
Students learned about the technology that is necessary to create ice in El Paso, a feat that baffles many of those who have lived their whole lives in the Sun City. The Tom Lea Toros also learned about the physics behind a hockey stick and the health benefits of ice skating.
More EPISD students will particiapte in these Science on Ice sessions later in the hockey season.
