EPISD Class of 2021 rakes in more than $102 million in scholarships

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- July 13, 2021) — EPISD’s 4,579 graduating seniors in the Class of 2021 earned more than $101.6 million in funding for college, including many prestigious full-ride scholarships to some of the top universities in the country.

Included in the tally are six QuestBridge Scholars – the most in EPISD known history. These scholars will be attending Yale, Princeton, University of Notre Dame and University of Chicago on full-rides.

“We are proud of the accomplishments of Class of 2021,” Interim Superintendent Vince Sheffield said. “The funding these students sought out and received shows they are ready and fully committed to continuing their education. We wish them well as they embark on post-secondary education.”

Other scholarship award highlights:

  • Four National Merit Scholarship recipients
  • Seven of the city’s 10 Terry Scholars. These graduates will be attending UTEP, UT Austin and UT San Antonio on a renewable last-dollar scholarship award that works alongside other scholarships and grants to cover the full cost of undergraduate attendance for up to 8 semesters.
  • More than $51,000 in scholarships from the EPISD Education Foundation and its partner organization including the $5,000 Raul Moriel Memorial Scholarship for an El Paso High student.
  • 10 Quinn Scholarship winners, who received a $5,000 scholarship.
  • Franklin High graduate Juan Carlos Tanabe received an appointment to attend the US Military Academy at West Point.
