Destination District Redesign Community Meetings, A conversation about Program Expansions, 21st Century Facilities, & Rightsizing, Meeting schedule: episd.org/redesign

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — April 30, 2024) — El Paso ISD is embarking on a collaborative journey with the community to elevate education through Destination District Redesign (DDR). The DDR process is dedicated to ensuring that every child in El Paso ISD receives a high-quality education.

The redesign involves a thoughtful evaluation of programs, allocation of resources and a facilities assessment to ensure student and community needs are met.  This includes sunsetting campuses, so that every dollar spent, every program offered, and every facility utilized is dedicated to the goal of inspiring and empowering every child to thrive.

El Paso ISD is committed to ensuring transparency and inclusivity in the DDR process. To achieve this, the district established a dedicated committee comprised of a cross-section of district stakeholders. This committee will continually assess and inform the processes being conducted as part of DDR, ensuring that the voices and perspectives of parents, teachers, students and all community stakeholders are heard and considered throughout the journey.

Throughout May, the El Paso ISD community is invited to join the conversation and participate in meetings scheduled throughout the district’s geographic footprint to share their perspectives and ideas.  El Paso ISD wants input from parents, teachers, students and all community stakeholders to inform decisions.

DDR will unfold in three phases:

Phase I: El Paso ISD will host 10 feeder pattern meetings to introduce DDR and gather feedback regarding what constitutes a quality seat in El Paso ISD. Throughout the summer, the district will carefully review submitted feedback to determine what’s important to the community to develop a preliminary set of quality seats criteria.

Phase II: In early fall 2024, El Paso ISD will share the proposed high-quality seat criteria to the community.  In addition, the district will use the criteria to conduct a preliminary analysis of its campuses.  After another round of community conversations, the district will determine areas within the district where right sizing measures are necessary, campuses that may require facilities improvements, and program expansion opportunities.

Phase III: After three rounds of community engagement, in late fall 2024, the district will present recommendations from the DDR process to the Board of Trustees. If approved, El Paso ISD will support students and families to ensure a successful transition for the 2025-26 school year.

The district feels confident that through this process, El Paso ISD will deliver on the promise of a brighter future for all children and families.
