(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – April 24, 2024) — El Paso ISD students will represent the district at the DECA International Career Development Conference set in Anaheim, California.
The three-day event, which takes place April 27-30, will feature more than 23,000 high school students from throughout the world. There will also be teacher-advisors, business professionals and other alumni at the event.
“Moving on to the international part of the competition feels surreal,” said Mikayla Ortiz, a senior at Franklin High School. “I was shocked when they called my name on stage. I am very grateful to be able to compete and go with such a good group of students and an advisor who helped me along the way.”
DECA prepares high school and college students in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and more.
Members of the group also take part in competitive events which are meant to help the students put what they’ve learned to the test. The contests are also intended to help the young educators gain leadership skills, improve communication, empower them in the classroom, and network with leaders from across the world.
“I think the best part of joining DECA for me is learning about others and even yourself and what you can accomplish when you work hard,” said Luisa Granados, a senior at Franklin High School. “Being able to take in all this knowledge that I’ve learned from this group and apply it in college and future jobs is something I think is very valuable.”
