(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – April 23, 2024) — Burges High School is celebrating the completion of its upgraded baseball field. The new amenities were installed thanks in part to the El Paso ISD 2016 Bond.

The upgrades include a new outfield wall, scoreboard, a resodded field and freshly painted dugouts. The field is named after Robert “Bob” Osborne who was the head coach of the Burges team in 1969 and helped the team win its first varsity baseball district championship in 1972.

Osborne was the guest of honor during Burges’ varsity baseball game on Monday, April 22. The former head coach had the opportunity of throwing out the first pitch.

In 2016, voters approved the bond initiative which aimed to modernize and renovate aging campuses in the district. The 2016 bond has provided funds for technology, safety, athletic facilities and the replacement of aging buses.

In addition to the baseball field, Burges High School now features innovative learning spaces with open concepts, Promethean boards, and college-style outdoor areas. State-of-the-art fine arts facilities, including a black box theater, complement new sports amenities such as a softball field and tennis courts.
