(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – April 23, 2024) — Bowie High School seniors who are ready to continue their academic journey through postsecondary education now have a better picture of what to expect at the college level.
On Tuesday, April 23, students were visited by representatives of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and El Paso Community College (EPCC) as part of Operation College Bound. The presidents of each institution were also in attendance. The Operation College Bound series, which will traverse the entirety of the district’s high school campuses, is meant to inform high school seniors about the process of transitioning to college life.
Seniors accepted to UTEP or EPCC are invited to register for their first class and sign up for orientation during Operation College Bound’s stop at their respective campus.
“It’s incredibly important for us to be able to work hand and glove to make sure the students at Bowie High School, the students across El Paso County have an opportunity to move forward and continue their education at the higher level,” EPCC President William Serrata said. “Both UTEP and EPCC are going to provide all the support the students need in order to be successful in higher education.”
According to UTEP President Heather Wilson, 57 Bowie High School students have received scholarships through the UTEP Academic Scholarship Program and the UTEP Excellence Scholarship, the highest number of awards throughout El Paso ISD.
