Head Custodian Liz Gutierrez

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – April 10, 2024) — The hard work of one of El Paso ISD’s most diligent and long-serving employees is being recognized by one of the nation’s leading cleaning products corporations.

Liz Gutierrez, the head custodian at MacArthur PK-8 School, was nominated in Tennant Company’s fifth annual Custodians Are Key recognition program. The competition was launched by the Tennant Company in 2019 to recognize custodians from throughout the country who are going above and beyond their daily jobs and making their schools a better place for teachers and students.

Gutierrez was nominated by an anonymous colleague who recognized the efforts she and her team put forth daily to make MacArthur shine, making the campus a clean, comfortable environment that is conducive to learning.

“When I received the news of the nomination, I was very happy because it happened during a very rough time in my life,” Gutierrez said. “After being nominated, I told my co-workers, ‘You see, guys? We are doing a wonderful job’ and this nomination is something that not only motivates me, but my entire crew as well.”

The Tennant Company is in the process of notifying all the candidates. The campaign will conclude in May 2024.

“I think this achievement and this recognition shows that if you put your best effort each day at your job, then you will be rewarded for your hard work,” Gutierrez said.
