(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — March 1, 2024) — The Chapin High School boys basketball team pulled away late from Colleyville Heritage 48-41 on Friday evening to advance to the UIL Class 5A Region I championship game against Amarillo at noon MST Saturday at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The berth in the regional final marks the second consecutive time the Huskies reach the Elite 8 round of the state playoffs. Chapin (34-4) will face Amarillo (34-4), which defeated Mansfield Summit 56-35 on Friday in the first game of the Region I tournament doubleheader.
Gates for the game will open at 11 a.m. MST Saturday. Saturday’s winner will advance to the UIL Boys Basketball State Championships beginning Thursday, March 7, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
