(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Feb. 8, 2024) — Two El Paso ISD high school girls basketball teams claimed district championships in their respective leagues and are part of a seven-team contingent that qualified for the state basketball playoffs.
Austin and Burges high schools claimed the 2023-24 regular season district titles in District 1-4A and District 1-5A, respectively. The Panthers finished the season with a 16-13 record (8-0 in District 1-4A). Meanwhile, the Mustangs finished 26-6 overall (10-0 in District 1-5A).
Other El Paso ISD schools that qualified for the playoffs include Bowie and Irvin from District 1-4A; and El Paso and Chapin from District 1-5A. El Paso and Chapin will play each other Friday, Feb. 9 to determine seeding in the playoffs as both teams finished with the same district record.
In District 1-6A, Franklin High School will meet San Angelo High School next week in the bi-district playoffs.

San Elizario High School vs Austin High School

Bowie High School vs Clint High School
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13
Location: Bowie HS (801 S. San Marcial St.)
Irvin High School vs Riverside High School
When: 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13
Location: Riverside HS (301 Midway Dr.)
District 1-5A
Ysleta High School vs Burges High School
When: 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12
Location: UTEP Don Haskins (151 Glory Rd.)
