(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – September 23, 2024) — El Paso ISD is leading the way for the region’s military families. In an exciting announcement, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) revealed that El Paso ISD has earned an impressive 58 new Purple Star Campus Designations for the 2024-25 school year, setting the district apart as the leader in Texas. This achievement brings the total number of Purple Star designated campuses in El Paso ISD to 68, cementing its status as the top district in the county and top two in the state.
The Purple Star Campus designation is a prestigious honor awarded to schools that demonstrate a steadfast commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
To receive this coveted designation, schools must meet rigorous criteria, including appointing a campus-based military liaison, maintaining a dedicated and easily accessible military support webpage, implementing a campus transition program, and supporting a military family assistance initiative. These programs ensure that military-connected students have the resources they need to thrive, no matter how frequently they move or where they come from.
"We take immense pride in having the highest number of Purple Star campuses and being the only district with schools located on a military base,” said El Paso ISD Superintendent Diana Sayavedra. “The military families in El Paso are a vital part of our community, and being able to serve them fills us all with pride. My aspiration is for us to excel in every aspect, and it is a true honor to lead El Paso County in supporting the families who serve our nation. I am deeply thankful to every EPISD teacher and staff member whose hard work and dedication have helped us reach this significant milestone."
El Paso ISD, which is honored to operate six schools on Fort Bliss property, is proud to serve 8,000+ military-connected students across the district. This achievement showcases the district’s dedication to providing a welcoming, supportive, and enriching environment for military families.
Whether located on Fort Bliss or serving the wider community, all El Paso ISD campuses—regardless of their military-connected student population size—are eligible for this distinction, underscoring the district’s inclusive and supportive educational environment.
