(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – October 17, 2024) — El Paso ISD has been selected to host the prestigious 2025 Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) Conference in Arlington, Texas, next spring.

The event will be hosted by the Burges and Coronado High School student councils, providing a platform for student leaders from across Texas to come together, share ideas, and develop leadership skills that will shape their futures. In addition to fostering leadership, the conference will showcase the exceptional talent in the district’s fine arts department, placing El Paso ISD students in the spotlight.

“As hosts, we have to create presentations about what we want the conference to look like,” said Catalina Gutierrez, co-host and Burges High School student. “We want to bring a little taste of El Paso to Arlington and show off all the good things happening at our District. We also want our theme to be a celebration of all our successes and share inspirational stories.”

Hosting the TASC Conference is a tremendous honor for El Paso ISD and highlights the district’s dedication to student leadership, academic excellence, and community engagement. The Burges and Coronado student councils have already begun planning what promises to be an outstanding event, with support from the El Paso ISD Education Foundation.

“Although we are leaders now in high school, that might not be the case later on in life, and I think this conference is important because it helps us learn how to collaborate with each other and work towards the same goals,” said Giuliana Daniels, co-host, and Coronado High School student. “People who attend this conference will not only gain leadership skills but will also learn how to communicate with each other which will be beneficial for everyone later in life.”

Ruth Bohlin, Student Council Advisor at Burges, said the students have been doing a wonderful job putting the event together. “Our students have been making a very strong impression at the TASC. They have also been tapped to lead presentations and serve in state committees,” Bohlin said. “Being asked to co-host this conference just showcases the talents of our kids.”

To help fund this exciting endeavor, the El Paso ISD Education Foundation is actively participating in El Paso Giving Day on October 17, 2024. The Foundation, a long-standing supporter of students and educators through scholarships and classroom impact grants, has chosen to spotlight the TASC State Conference as its annual showcase event. The funds raised will ensure that the district’s students have the necessary resources to organize a world-class event.

In collaboration with Marathon Petroleum, the Foundation has secured a $5,000 matching grant during the Early Giving period (October 10-17). Every dollar donated during this time will have double the impact, helping the Foundation reach its fundraising goals more quickly.

The El Paso ISD Education Foundation is calling on employees, parents, and community members to contribute during El Paso Giving Day. Donations will not only support the TASC State Conference but also fund future initiatives that foster leadership and growth opportunities for students’ district wide.

Don’t miss this opportunity to support the district and its students. Every donation, no matter the size, will bring El Paso ISD closer to making the 2025 TASC State Conference a success. To donate, visit the El Paso Giving Day website. Remember—your donation can be matched up to $5,000 thanks to Marathon Petroleum.
