(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – December 18, 2024) — The holiday season came alive across El Paso ISD as schools and community partners came together to make a difference in the lives of students, families, and even furry friends. Through various events held throughout the district, the spirit of giving and kindness shone brightly.
Rusk Elementary Student Council Donates to Humane Society
The Rusk Eagle Student Council channeled their holiday spirit into helping animals in need by organizing a donation drive for the Humane Society of El Paso. Students participated in a classroom competition to collect the most supplies, fostering teamwork and compassion along the way. On December 13, the Student Council delivered the donations to the Humane Society, where they toured the facility and met adoptable dogs and cats. “This experience taught our students about teamwork, compassion, and commitment,” shared a Rusk staff member. The event left many students inspired to adopt a pet and continue supporting their community.
Toy Giveaway Brings Joy to Students
On December 17, Abundant Church brought holiday cheer to students at Sunrise Mountain Elementary with a toy giveaway for every child.
The event ensured that no child was left out of the holiday fun. The excitement and joy of the students as they received their toys filled the air, showcasing the impact of kindness during the holiday season.
Knights of Columbus Donate Jackets to Herrera Students
At Herrera Elementary School, the Knights of Columbus warmed the hearts of 50 students by donating jackets on December 17. The organization personally delivered the jackets, ensuring each child felt cared for this holiday season. “Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as they received their new jackets was truly special,” said a school representative. This generous act highlights the strong community partnerships that El Paso ISD continues to foster.
Mesita Elementary and Wiggs Middle School Gift Distribution
El Paso ISD Police Services collaborated with Officer Juan Perez from the Marfa Police Department, who gathered gifts donated by citizens in his community. Lisa Guzman, the Family and Community Liaison at Wiggs Middle School, provided a list of students and their wish lists. Each student received gifts that matched their specific requests. On December 18, Police Services, along with Mrs. Guzman, delivered the gifts to students at Mesita Elementary, ECDC, and Wiggs Middle School. Several additional gifts remain and will be delivered to students at Hart Elementary.
In addition, the El Paso High feeder pattern also made holiday donations, supporting the Wiggs Resource Center.
