(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – May 13, 2025) — Families, students, and staff gathered recently for a heartwarming celebration highlighting the abilities of students with autism and connecting families to vital support resources available within the El Paso community.
Hosted by El Paso ISD’s Special Education Health Services Center, the annual event brought together campus and community leaders, partner organizations, and families for a day of entertainment, learning, and connection. From a piano performance by a talented Wiggs Middle School student to a high-energy martial arts demonstration from Kickstart students at Bobby Joe Hill PK-8, the event showcased the strength, creativity, and potential of El Paso ISD students.
In addition to student performances, families had the opportunity to explore a variety of resources through community partners and vendors offering information on services, therapies, and post-graduation support for students with autism and other exceptional needs. Door prizes, refreshments, and welcoming conversations helped foster a sense of belonging and unity.

“This event is about celebrating our students’ abilities while also making sure families feel seen, supported, and empowered,” said Veronica Reyes, Assistant Superintendent of Specialized Learning Services. “A lot of times, parents don’t know about the resources that are available to them. Some feel left out because their child has different needs, and this event brings everyone together to show them they are not alone.”
The Special Education department hosts the gathering annually to help bridge gaps between families and the community and to emphasize that inclusion, support, and understanding are year-round commitments.
“Our team does an incredible job every year creating a space that highlights our students and makes families feel welcome,” Reyes said. “It’s a reminder that support doesn’t end in the classroom—it extends into the community.”
