(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — May 27, 2025) — El Paso ISD proudly celebrates Emiliano Ferran Martinez, a sixth-grade student at Wiggs Middle School, who captured first place at the 2025 Regional Spanish Spelling Bee, hosted by ESC Region 19 at the Starlight Event Center on Saturday, May 24.
Emiliano triumphed after 30 challenging rounds, correctly spelling the final word—cardiovascular—to secure the top spot in a field of talented students from across the region, including participants from Canutillo ISD, Socorro ISD, San Elizario ISD, and others.
As the first-place winner, Emiliano received a trophy, a medal, a certificate, and a $30 Barnes & Noble gift card. He now advances to the Texas State Spanish Spelling Bee, which will also be held at the Starlight Event Center on June 19, 2025.
The annual Regional Spanish Spelling Bee is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of language, culture, and community. ESC Region 19 recognized all student participants as champions, honoring their hard work with medals, certificates, and gift cards to inspire continued learning.
The district extends heartfelt thanks to the families, teachers, and staff who supported Emiliano throughout his journey.
El Paso ISD wishes Emiliano the best of luck as he represents our district and region at the state level next month—¡Vamos, campeón!
