Young Women's Academy Teacher Recognized

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Aug. 7, 2025) — El Paso ISD is proud to recognize Rebecca Guerrero, a distinguished educator at Young Women’s STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy, for being honored with the James F. Veninga Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award. It is the highest honor presented by Humanities Texas.

Guerrero was selected as the top candidate among twelve statewide award recipients for her visionary and impactful work in the classroom and beyond. Her approach to teaching humanities empowers students through project-based learning, collaborative research, and critical inquiry rooted in social and cultural awareness.

Among her many contributions, Guerrero has led the development of the campus’s capstone program with a women and gender studies focus, enriching the academic experience with real-world relevance. She has also partnered with UTEP’s English department, connecting her AP Language and Composition students with future teachers to co-create multimodal testimonios—a powerful fusion of storytelling, reflection, and digital literacy.

Her dedication extends to the national stage as well, having served as a facilitator and leader in National Endowment for the Humanities summer institutes designed to enhance teaching practices for educators across the country.
