(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Sept. 16, 2025) — Students at Douglass Elementary School are stepping into the new school year with confidence and dignity thanks to a special partnership with Operation Warm, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls.
On September 10, students at Douglass received a brand-new pair of shoes through Operation Warm’s nationwide initiative to provide basic necessities to children in underserved communities. The effort brought joy, excitement, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude to the campus.
Principal Michelle Corral said she submitted the proposal back in March, hoping Douglass would be selected for sponsorship. In August, she received the good news that her school had been chosen.
“I’m in awe in the way Operation Warm has everything so organized, how they reach out to our communities, their partnership, and I think most importantly for me is that they’re community partners who believe in our students, and they’re partners with us and most importantly, they’re treating our students with dignity, and helping them go out into the world with confidence,” Corral said.
Through its work with retail partners, Operation Warm ensures that children have access to essential items like coats and shoes—items that not only meet physical needs but also help build confidence and self-esteem.
“This is a true testimony to the work we do in the district,” Corral said. “I represent Douglass, but I also represent El Paso ISD, so I think that EPISD will be proud of this work and how we’re servicing 460 students today.”
Founded in 1998, Operation Warm has provided millions of coats and shoes to children across the United States. The organization focuses on reaching Title I schools, Head Start programs, homeless shelters, and other organizations serving children in urgent need.
“I’m really grateful for Operation Warm, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls for choosing Douglass Elementary,” Corral said. “Our children are underserved, and this was a really great opportunity for our students.”
With brand-new shoes on their feet and smiles on their faces, Douglass students are ready to take on the school year—one confident step at a time.
