(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Oct. 3, 2025) — El Paso High School student Mia Navarro is no stranger to the spotlight. She already holds the title of Teen Miss Texas Earth and has twice walked the runway at New York Fashion Week — all while beginning her high school journey in the halls of the “Lady on the Hill.”
Navarro began competing in pageants only a year ago, entering her first local competition as a way to explore modeling. That step quickly led to opportunities at the state level and eventually to her crowning as Teen Miss Texas Earth, where her platform focuses on air pollution and raising awareness about the environment.
“It’s important to speak up about issues that affect all of us,” Navarro said. “Being in pageants has helped me share my voice while also building confidence.”
The title also comes with scholarship and modeling opportunities, including a $5,000 award and travel experiences that open doors for young women across the country.
Her success has also taken her to one of fashion’s biggest stages. In both February and September, Navarro modeled designs at New York Fashion Week, including a gown by designer Mara Jai and accessories by Alexandria. She was even featured on a Times Square billboard. It’s an experience she describes as life changing.
“It was amazing to see myself in the middle of New York,” Navarro said. “At that moment, I knew I wanted to move there one day to focus on modeling and fashion journalism.”
Alongside these achievements, Navarro carries with her a story of resilience. Three years ago, she lost her father in a tragic accident, a moment that profoundly shaped her outlook. Rather than holding her back, the experience strengthened her resolve to pursue her dreams and honor her family through her success.
While her accomplishments outside of school are impressive, Navarro says she treasures her everyday experiences at El Paso High just as much. Having attended Mesita Elementary and Wiggs Middle School, she’s now part of a Tiger family that also includes many lifelong friends.
“One of my favorite times at school is during lunch where I can sit and talk with my friends and we all get to hang out,” Navarro said. “I love El Paso High School, and I think other people should think about attending here.”
Her inspiration, she says, comes from her grandmother, who first introduced her to the world of pageantry. Beyond modeling, her grandmother has instilled in her the importance of education. Mia credits her teachers and coaches with helping her grow in confidence and communication skills — tools that serve her both in class and on stage.
Navarro’s long-term goals include pursuing modeling professionally and eventually studying fashion journalism. For her, it’s the perfect way to combine her love for fashion with her passion for storytelling.
As she balances the demands of high school with an emerging career, Navarro remains grateful for the support of her family, school, and community. “It’s such an honor to represent El Paso,” she said. “I want to continue working hard so that I can inspire others and give back in the future.”
