(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Oct. 6, 2025) — El Paso ISD is investing in the future of its schools by growing leadership from within. This week, 40 educators from across the district came together for the first session of the new Inspire Academy, a program designed to prepare teachers and staff who aspire to become assistant principals and campus leaders.
“It was a great first session,” said Elementary Math Interventionist Jessica Valdez. “I really appreciated the interactive opportunities to network with others.”
The Inspire Academy helps participants make the transition from the classroom to leadership by focusing on skills like coaching, data-driven decision-making, and building strong, supportive school cultures. Each session gives participants tools they can apply right away on their campuses.
"We were excited to have 40 participants in our first session. This is a strong indicator of our aspiring leaders' interest & willingness to grow and advance, the potential to strengthen our leadership pipeline, and the commitment of our district efforts to invest in and build leaders from within our district," said Executive Principal Sarah Venegas.
Why it matters
Strong principals and assistant principals play a critical role in school success. National research shows that school leaders are second only to teachers in impacting student learning. Districts that invest in programs like Inspire Academy, often called “principal pipelines,” see improved teacher performance, higher student outcomes, and more stable, effective schools.
What participants are learning through Inspire Academy:
• How to lead and support teachers and staff
• Using data to improve student results
• Coaching for continuous growth
• Creating welcoming and inclusive school cultures
The program is open to teachers, counselors, instructional coaches, and other educators who already hold or are working toward a Texas principal certificate.
By investing in Inspire Academy, El Paso ISD is making a long-term commitment to build strong, stable leadership teams at every school. This ensures students, families, and staff have the support they need to thrive today and into the future.
