Jacob Rodriguez

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Oct. 29, 2025) — For Jacob Rodriguez, being part of the Austin High School Panthers isn’t just about Friday night lights; it’s about carrying on a family tradition.

The senior football player, known by teammates as “911” for his ability to step in wherever he’s needed, has become a reliable and spirited leader on and off the field. Whether he’s lining up in a new position or encouraging his teammates, Jacob embraces his role as the “emergency player” with pride.

“It felt amazing joining the Austin football team and putting on the jersey,” Rodriguez said. “God willing, my kids will also come to Austin and carry on my legacy.”

That legacy runs deep. Both of Jacob’s parents are proud Austin alumni who first met during their own senior year on campus. Today, Jacob is honoring that tradition while creating his own path through football, broadcasting, and academics.

“Austin High School has prepared me in a lot of ways,” Rodriguez said. “Coach Pichardo has been with me throughout everything and has taught me how to be strong both physically and mentally. All my coaches deserve special shout outs because they always make sure I am the best version of myself.”

In addition to football, Jacob has spent all four years at Austin involved in broadcasting, giving him another way to contribute to his campus community. Balancing athletics and academics has only strengthened his sense of discipline and teamwork.

As his senior year unfolds, Jacob is already looking ahead with gratitude and determination. “Graduating from Austin is going to mean a lot to me because it’ll mean that I am carrying on my family’s legacy,” he said. “When I leave Austin High School, I hope to give back and donate back to my school and back to my football team.”

For Jacob Rodriguez, the story of Austin High School is more than history, it’s a living tradition that continues to shape his future, one game, one broadcast, and one legacy at a time.
