Silva Magnet High School

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Jan. 22, 2026) — El Paso ISD continues to expand opportunities that prepare students for success beyond graduation through its comprehensive Career Pathways programs, which connect academic learning with real-world skills, industry certifications, and college credit.

Through Career and Technical Education (CTE), P-TECH, Early College High Schools, and specialized magnet programs, EPISD students are gaining early exposure to high-demand careers while building a clear path toward college, the workforce, or both.

Silva Magnet High School: A Pipeline to Healthcare Careers

Silva Magnet High School offers one of the district’s most comprehensive healthcare-focused Career and Technical Education programs, preparing students for careers across the medical field.

Silva’s programs of study include Nursing Science, Biomedical Science, Healthcare Diagnostics, Health Informatics, Exercise Science and Wellness, Medical Therapy, and Healthcare Therapeutics. Students can earn industry-based certifications such as Certified Nurse Aide, Patient Care Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, and Medical Billing and Coding, along with dual credit and practicum experiences.

“Silva Magnet High School is designed to give students a strong foundation in healthcare while exposing them to the many pathways available within the field,” said Principal Edgar Rincon. “Our students graduate with knowledge, certifications, and real-world experience that prepare them for both college and careers in healthcare.”

Learning by Doing at the Center for Career & Technology Education

At EPISD’s Center for Career & Technology Education, students from across the district take part in hands-on programs aligned to industry needs. CCTE offers programs of study in fields such as Cyber Security, Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Health Science, HVAC, Welding, Law Enforcement, and Animation. Many pathways lead to industry-based certifications and college credit, giving students a competitive advantage after graduation.

“Our focus is on helping students discover who they are, what they’re interested in, and how their education can open doors to future opportunities,” said Nicholas DeSantis, Principal of the Center for Career and Technology Education (CCTE). “Career Pathways allow students to apply what they’re learning in meaningful ways and leave high school with skills that truly matter.”

CCTE plays a key role in helping students move from career exploration to skill development, often working alongside counselors to align coursework with student goals beginning in middle and early high school.

P-TECH and Early College: College Credit at No Cost

EPISD’s P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) and Early College High School programs allow students to earn college credit—or even an associate degree—while completing their high school diploma, all at no cost to families.

P-TECH campuses partner with El Paso Community College and regional employers to prepare students for careers in areas such as computer science, medical fields, education, and business. Early College High Schools provide smaller learning environments, personalized advising, and rigorous coursework designed to accelerate college readiness.

“Our goal is to make sure every student leaves El Paso ISD with a clear path to college or career,” said EPISD Chief Academic Officer Al Garcia. “These programs give students access to opportunities that can change the trajectory of their lives.”

A Path for Every Student

EPISD’s Career Pathways model begins early, allowing students to explore interests in elementary and middle school before selecting a program of study in high school. With guidance from counselors and educators, students build academic and technical skills, earn credentials, and gain confidence in their future goals.

Whether pursuing a career in healthcare, technology, skilled trades, or business, EPISD students are graduating with more than a diploma—they are leaving with purpose, preparation, and possibility.
