Mama mia! El Paso ISD principals are unlocking new leadership levels at today's "Level Up!" retreat as they prepare to support our classrooms for the upcoming school year.
Hello El Paso ISD,
Our hallways may be quiet during the summer break, but the vital behind-the-scenes work of preparing for our students' future is in full swing. Today, I joined our campus leaders at Burges High School for day one of our annual Principal Retreat. Throughout this intensive two-day collaboration, our principals are actively sharpening their instructional lens, focusing on strengthening observation and feedback mechanisms, locking down classroom essentials like active student engagement, and mapping new ideas for the upcoming year so we can continue to inspire student success.
Most importantly, we are launching a major shift in how we support our educators. Principals and assistant principals are training to be hands-on instructional coaches. Our expectation for the 2026-2027 school year is for leaders to be highly visible, conduct frequent, short classroom visits, and deliver helpful, face-to-face feedback to ensure our teachers continue to thrive.
I believe that to empower students to achieve the high expectations we set for them, we must first set high expectations for ourselves.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brian Lusk
Superintendent of Schools
