(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – July 1, 2026) — The El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees has approved the process to appoint representatives to fill vacancies in Districts 6 and 7, the Franklin and Coronado feeder patterns, respectively.

The Board is seeking qualified community members interested in serving their district and helping to shape the future of El Paso ISD. Applications will be accepted at El Paso ISD, 1014 N. Stanton, beginning July 2 through July 27 by 4:30 p.m.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements established under Texas law, including being a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, a qualified voter, a Texas resident for at least 12 months, and a resident of the respective trustee district for at least six months prior to the appointment. District employees, convicted felons whose rights have not been restored, registered sex offenders, and individuals prohibited under state nepotism or conflict-of-interest laws are not eligible to serve.

"The Board is committed to conducting an open and transparent appointment process that gives qualified community members an opportunity to serve," said Board President Leah Hanany. "We encourage individuals who are passionate about public education and committed to supporting students, families, and our schools to consider applying."

As part of the appointment process, candidate forums will be held at Franklin High School and Coronado High School during the week of Aug. 3. The forums will be moderated by student council and journalism students from Franklin and Coronado high schools with questions submitted by community organizations, parent groups, employee organizations, and neighborhood associations.

Following the candidate forums, the Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting during the week of Aug. 3 to interview applicants and vote on the appointments.

Individuals appointed to the vacancies will serve until the next regular trustee election in May 2027, when the positions will appear on the ballot as scheduled. Candidate applications for the May 2027 election are expected to be accepted during the state-prescribed filing period, which typically occurs between January and February of the election year.
