(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – July 1, 2026) — El Paso ISD has named Monica Brinkley as the new principal of Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy. Brinkley brings more than two decades of educational experience and a proven record of improving student achievement, building positive school cultures, and leading successful campus improvement efforts.
Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy is one of El Paso ISD's specialized academy campuses, offering students hands-on, project-based learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
"It is an honor to serve the students, families, and staff of Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy," Brinkley said. "STEAM education encourages curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that prepare students for the future. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated educators and families to ensure every student feels empowered to dream big, achieve their goals, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom."
Most recently, Brinkley served as Interim Principal at Cooley Elementary, where she launched the school's redesigned STEM academy. Brinkley has also served as principal of Rusk Elementary, assistant principal at Sunrise Elementary, math and reading coach at Cielo Vista Elementary, and classroom teacher at Fannin Elementary.
"Monica is an experienced instructional leader who understands how to build strong school communities while keeping student success at the center of every decision," Superintendent Dr. Brian Lusk said. "Her experience leading academic improvement and developing innovative learning environments makes her an outstanding choice to lead Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy."
A proud graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, Brinkley earned a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences with a minor in Mathematics and a Master of Education in Educational Administration. She holds a Texas Principal Certification and is certified in both the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) and the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS).
