(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – August 28, 2026) — El Paso ISD and El Paso Children’s Hospital are strengthening their partnership to provide additional support and resources for student-athletes and the athletic trainers who care for them across the district.
Through the partnership, El Paso ISD athletic trainers will have an established connection with healthcare professionals at El Paso Children’s Hospital, providing an additional resource when athletic trainers need medical guidance or expertise related to student injuries and other health concerns.
“Our partnership with El Paso ISD reflects a shared commitment to the health, safety and success of student-athletes. By supporting athletic trainers across the district, we are investing in the well-being of students and ensuring they have access to expert care and resources when they need them most,” said, Dr. Cindy Stout, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, President and Chief Executive Officer of El Paso Children’s Hospital.
The collaboration is designed to help athletic trainers make informed decisions when supporting student-athletes, particularly when an injury requires additional medical knowledge or specialized guidance.
“This partnership gives our athletic trainers another valuable resource when caring for our student-athletes,” said David Cervantes, Senior Director of Athletics for El Paso ISD. “Our trainers work closely with students every day, and having a direct connection to pediatric healthcare professionals allows us to strengthen the support we provide when injuries occur. Ultimately, this partnership is about putting the health, safety, and well-being of our students first.”
El Paso ISD has athletic trainers supporting student-athletes across its middle and high school campuses. Their work includes injury prevention, evaluation and management of injuries, rehabilitation, and helping student-athletes safely return to participation.
The partnership represents a continued commitment by El Paso ISD and El Paso Children’s Hospital to work together to support the health and success of students throughout the Borderland.
