(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Oct. 22, 2026) — Bliss Elementary School has been recognized for its commitment to student success, earning a Silver Award in the 2026 Lone Star Awards from the Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA), an honor that highlights the vital role school counselors play in supporting students and creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
The award recognizes schools that have demonstrated strong implementation of a comprehensive counseling program that supports students’ academic, social, and personal growth. Schools are recognized at four levels: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Rising Star, as they continue strengthening programs that promote student success.
For Principal Julie Parra, the recognition belongs to the counseling team whose work helps students navigate challenges, access support, and succeed at school.
“This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of our school counseling team,” Parra said. “Their commitment to supporting our students and helping them succeed makes a difference in our school community every day. I’m proud to see their work recognized through this award.”
Bliss Elementary will be recognized alongside schools from across Texas during the LSSSCA Annual School Counselor Conference and awards gala Nov. 15-17 in Frisco.
The progressive recognition program provides schools with a pathway to strengthen their practices, with the Gold Award level preparing schools to pursue the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation.
An A-rated campus with a Purple Star designation recognizing its commitment to serving military-connected students and families, Bliss Elementary School serves nearly 700 students at Fort Bliss in a supportive environment that promotes both academic excellence and student well-being. Bliss Elementary empowers students to reach their full potential while fostering a culture where every child feels connected, supported, and inspired to succeed.
El Paso ISD has proudly served Fort Bliss families for generations and is the only district with schools located on base. Educating approximately 8,000 military-connected students each year, El Paso ISD provides continuity and support that help make transitions smoother for military students and their families.
