Superintendent Search El Paso ISD

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — November 18, 2025) - The El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously, with all seven members collectively naming Dr. Brian Lusk as the district’s lone finalist for Superintendent.  The Board expressed strong confidence in Dr. Lusk’s ability to further El Paso ISD’s mission of providing a high-quality education for all students.

“El Paso ISD’s Board of Trustees is proud to name Dr. Brian Lusk as our next Superintendent,” said Board President Leah Hanany. “We look forward to working with Dr. Lusk as we move forward and focus on what matters most, which is our students. I want to thank every member of the Board of Trustees for their thoughtful leadership and the commitment they brought to this search process. I am grateful for their collaboration on behalf of the EPISD community and am so hopeful about the work we have ahead.”

Dr. Lusk brings three decades of experience in public education and currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Schools and Academics for the Dallas ISD. He began his career in Dallas as a classroom teacher and has since built an extensive record of service and leadership, holding roles that include teacher, principal, executive director of schools, and deputy chief of schools. He also served as Chief of Strategic Initiatives before being promoted to Deputy Superintendent. In his current role, he oversees 228 schools and leads districtwide work in academics, college and career readiness, counseling services, innovation, and athletics.

He holds a degree in elementary education, a master’s in educational administration, and most recently earned his doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas at Austin.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done. Our superintendent search process was truly successful, and it showed what can happen when a board works together with focus, respect, and commitment,” expressed Trustee Valerie Beals. “The teamwork, the long hours, and the careful, tedious steps we took all paid off. I cannot express enough how proud I am of this board and the integrity we showed throughout this entire process.”

The selection process was guided by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), which facilitated community engagement and gathered valuable feedback from stakeholders throughout the search. The Board expressed appreciation to TASB for ensuring a transparent, inclusive process that reflected the voices of students, staff, families, and community members.

In accordance with state law, the Board must now observe a 21-day waiting period before officially naming Dr. Lusk as the new Superintendent.

The El Paso ISD Board of Trustees and staff welcome Dr. Lusk to the district and look forward to his leadership in shaping the future of El Paso ISD. The Board has submitted a signed joint statement affirming their unified support for this selection; which can be viewed here.
