(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT โ€“ April 24, 2025) โ€“ The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the official 2023 Aโ€“F Academic Accountability Ratings, confirming El Paso ISDโ€™s early projection of a โ€œCโ€ rating with an official score of 78. This validation highlights the districtโ€™s dedication to transparency and its proactive approach to addressing academic challenges.

In January 2023, El Paso ISD conducted an in-depth analysis of student performance and district-wide data which projected a โ€œCโ€ rating. Even before the official ratings were releasedโ€”delayed by a statewide lawsuit involving multiple districtsโ€”the district began implementing transformative initiatives to address areas of need.

Guided by a mission to achieve excellence, El Paso ISD has embraced bold strategies to elevate academic outcomes and increase high-quality educational opportunities across the district. These efforts are part of a comprehensive plan to ensure every student receives the support and resources they need to succeed, as the district works toward an โ€œAโ€ rating.

Superintendent Diana Sayavedra stated, โ€œThe progress weโ€™ve achieved reflects the dedication and hard work of our educators, staff, students, and their families. While I am incredibly proud of what weโ€™ve accomplished so far, there is still much work ahead. We are implementing focused strategies and making bold changes to enhance student outcomes, remaining steadfast in our commitment to fostering a culture of high expectations, academic excellence, and continuous growth across all our campuses.โ€

Key to transforming El Paso ISD into a destination district is increasing the number of high-quality seats, ensuring that all students have access to exceptional learning environments. Formative assessments show promising trends, particularly in College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR), where El Paso ISD ranks among the top large urban districts statewide in critical categories, including TSI (Texas Success Initiative) performance in reading and math.

El Paso ISDโ€™s progress is powered by innovative programs and targeted initiatives:

  • High-Impact Educator Placement: Strategically assigning top-performing educators to campuses with the greatest academic needs to drive meaningful improvements.

  • Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum: Implementing a guaranteed and viable student-centered District curriculum using high quality instructional resources to ensure a rigorous learning experience for every student.

  • Accelerated Campus Excellence (ACE) Model Expansion: Transformed Canyon Hills Middle School from an โ€œDโ€ to a โ€œBโ€ with a 16-point increase in a single year. This model will expand to Charles Q. Murphree PK-8, Tinajero PK-8, and Guillen Middle School in the 2025โ€“2026 school year to foundationally improve student outcomes and campus standing.

  • Specialized Elementary Academies: Offering programs in Montessori, STEAM, STEM, Environmental Sciences, and Fine Arts to spark curiosity, foster academic engagement and rigorous learning outcomes.

  • Leading Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Program: Launched an Aerospace Engineering Program at Guillen and Charles Middle Schools, offering students a pathway to explore high-demand STEM careers.

  • AVID Program Growth: Expanding the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program to additional campuses to equip students with essential academic skills.

  • IMPACT Program: Introducing a revolutionary approach to learning by integrating academic interventions throughout the school year, intercession and summer, providing personalized and timely support for students.

  • Focus on Early Childhood Education: Expanding PK3 full day and half day offerings to additional campuses and PK4 full day courses to all elementary campuses. These early literacy and numeracy programs focus on developmental milestones and early learning skills that emphasize a seamless transition between preschool and early elementary grades.
