(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — July 2, 2025) — The curtain is rising on one of El Paso ISD’s most cherished traditions: the district’s annual summer musical. Now in its 40th year, this milestone production brings the razzle-dazzle of Chicago: Teen Edition to the stage at Coronado High School Auditorium for four unforgettable nights of music, dance, and student brilliance.
Performances run July 16 through July 19 at 7 p.m. each evening. Admission is free and open to the public.
Students from across the district’s high schools have spent the summer preparing a powerful and polished performance of Chicago: Teen Edition, drawing from every corner of the district’s award-winning fine arts programs—including theater, choir, orchestra, dance, and visual arts. Audiences will be treated to a full-scale production featuring dazzling costumes, original set design, and a live student orchestra.
"This summer musical is an amazing example of what happens when passion, discipline, and opportunity come together,” said Philip Barraza, Executive Director of Fine Arts for El Paso ISD. "Our students are not only performing; they’re managing lights, sound, costumes, and set design. It’s an immersive, real-world arts experience that builds confidence and lifelong skills. Our audiences are always beyond impressed with the powerful talent and magic our shows bring."
Since its inception, El Paso ISD’s summer musical has stood as one of the longest-running public high school musical programs in the nation, giving students the chance to collaborate across campuses and showcase their talents on a grand stage. This year’s show promises to deliver all the style, wit, and spirit that has made Chicago a timeless classic—with a fresh twist for all ages.
