(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT - Oct. 13, 2026) — El Paso ISD remains financially stable and continues to have the funding necessary to support students, staff, and daily operations.

Recently, the district was moved to Payment Class 2 status, which changes the timing of when state funding is distributed throughout the year. El Paso ISD will still receive the full amount of state funding it is entitled to receive, but those funds now arrive on a different schedule.

Because of this change, there may be times when district expenses, such as payroll, employee benefits, transportation, utilities, and classroom needs, must be paid before the next state payment is received.

Like many organizations, school districts sometimes use short-term financing to manage differences between when expenses are due and when revenue is received. If El Paso ISD chooses to pursue a short-term loan, it would serve as a temporary bridge to help maintain normal operations until scheduled state funding arrives.

This is not about a lack of funding. The district continues to receive local tax revenue and state funding and remains committed to responsible financial management. Any short-term borrowing would be a proactive step to ensure campuses operate smoothly and students continue receiving the services they deserve without interruption.

Simply put, the conversation is about the timing of funding, not the availability of funding. El Paso ISD is planning ahead to ensure the district remains on solid financial footing while continuing to serve our students, families, employees, and community.
