(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT โ May 9, 2024) โ Administrators and students from throughout the Burges High School feeder pattern joined El Paso ISD officials and family members of Wally Hartley to celebrate the completion of the $48 million campus that bears the longtime coachโs name during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the school Thursday, May 9.
The special event took place in front of Coach Wally Hartley PK-8 Schoolโs new administration building, which is part of a bevy of enhancements made to the campus โ a consolidation of Hughey Elementary School and Ross Middle School โ which opened its doors to 1,300 students in August 2023 as part of El Paso ISD's $668 million bond program, which was passed by voters in 2016.
The newly revitalized Hartley campus is a blend of renovated facilities from the original schools alongside state-of-the-art additions, built to empower students and provide optimal learning environments. The enhancements include the integration of middle school classrooms, a shared library, gymnasium, fine arts area, and an expanded cafeteria, offering students a comprehensive array of resources to support their academic journey.
Other additions include extensive renovations and upgrades to the roofing, HVAC system, classrooms enhancements, and a new playground.
โWhen you played for Coach Hartley, you always thought of two things โ the team and always giving it your all,โ said Wanda Johnson, Hartleyโs principal. โAnd that same spirit continues here today.โ
