School Information
Our School
In the atrium of C Building there is a monument of Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. The plaque states: In 1540 Francisco Vasquez de Coronado set a legend into motion. He discovered a place where greatness would strive. We are that place. Coronado High School is one of eleven high schools in the El Paso Independent School District. Opened in 1962, Coronado’s campus includes 6 two story academic buildings, a library with more than 25,000 titles and Internet access on each of its 26 computers, 2 gymnasiums, a football stadium with an all-weather track, a fine arts facility, tennis courts, a cafeteria, a horticulture/agriculture building, an off-campus farm, portable classrooms and parking lots for both students and school employees. Coronado has for many years taken pride in its accomplishments in athletics, music, and the arts, club activities, academic competitions, and community service. Both girls and boys participate in sports all year round. Coronado’s band and orchestra programs have long been standard bearers in local and state competitions, as has our Academic Decathlon team. Student Government plays an important role in school functions from the freshman year onward.
