(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Dec. 9, 2025) — El Paso ISD joined La Nube STEAM Discovery Center and Microsoft TechSpark today to launch Hour of AI, a new community initiative designed to introduce students, educators, and families to core concepts in artificial intelligence and coding.
Students from Coach Archie Duran Elementary helped kick off the collaborative effort during a special event held inside La Nube’s Blue Sky Lab. The program featured remarks from Gina Martinez, CEO of La Nube; JJ Childress, Microsoft’s Community Engagement Manager; and district leaders, followed by a check presentation in support of the initiative.
The Hour of AI partnership expands local access to hands-on, age-appropriate learning experiences that help students understand how artificial intelligence works and how it is shaping careers, industries, and daily life. The initiative aligns closely with El Paso ISD’s participation in Computer Science Education Week, reinforcing the district’s commitment to building technological and digital literacy skills across all grade levels.
“This partnership helps us accelerate opportunities for students to explore emerging technologies in meaningful and engaging ways,” said Justin Yepez, Instructional Tech. “Through Hour of AI, our students are not only learning how AI works — they are learning how to think critically, problem-solve, and imagine themselves as the future creators of this technology.”
Beginning this week, students across EPISD will participate in the Hour of AI through interactive lessons designed by Code.org and delivered through Schoology. The experience includes digital activities, unplugged lessons, and advanced options such as Minecraft Education, giving every classroom — Pre-K through 12th grade — the flexibility to engage with AI literacy in developmentally appropriate ways.
Leaders from La Nube and Microsoft emphasized the importance of early exposure to emerging technologies and the role that community partnerships play in preparing students for high-demand pathways in engineering, robotics, computer science, and beyond.
El Paso ISD’s involvement in Hour of AI is part of a broader strategic effort to expand access to computer science, STEM programs, and hands-on innovation experiences for all students. By working alongside regional partners, the district continues to build a strong foundation that positions students for success in a rapidly evolving future.
