Dear El Paso ISD,
What an exciting week it’s been! From national scholarships to international competitions, our El Paso ISD family continues to shine.
Congratulations to Miranda Galindo-Gonzalez of Chapin High School and Giselle Gonzalez of Silva Health Magnet for being named QuestBridge Scholars! This prestigious nationwide program recognizes academically outstanding students and offers them the chance to earn full four-year scholarships to top-tier colleges. The selection process is highly competitive and considers academic excellence, leadership, and writing skills. Each year, approximately 20,000 students apply, with fewer than 5,000 selected. We applaud Miranda and Giselle for their hard work and dedication and look forward to all the great things ahead for them.
We’re also sending a big congratulations to the CCTE HOSA Medical Reserve Corps team. The group of students from various El Paso ISD high schools earned second place at the HOSA International Leadership Conference. This prestigious global event brings together student leaders from health science programs from around the world to compete in medical-related activities and engage in leadership development. Success at this event opens doors to scholarship opportunities and connections with healthcare professionals. This huge accomplishment reflects the dedication of our students and educators in El Paso ISD’s health sciences programs.
Preparations for the new school year are underway, and I’m thrilled about our third annual Back to School Fiesta! This unique tradition, held at each of our ten traditional high schools, is an opportunity to build community, share essential information, and help students feel ready for the first day. With fun activities like jumping balloons, games, and the chance to reconnect with friends and opportunities to meet teachers and staff, the Fiesta is the perfect way to kick off the year. We can’t wait to see you there!
During the June 18th Regular Board Meeting, the district received the final report from the districtwide Equity Assessment conducted by the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium. This comprehensive evaluation highlights El Paso ISD’s strengths while identifying areas where we can grow to better serve every student and staff member.
The district is working on a plan to evaluate the findings and collaborate on meaningful changes that will enhance the student experience across the district. With this report, we will ensure our policies, practices, and resources align with our shared vision of creating an inclusive, supportive, and equitable environment for all. Together, we will continue our commitment to fairness, opportunity, and excellence for every member of the El Paso ISD family.
As June wraps up, I hope you’re enjoying summer with loved ones! A quick reminder: El Paso ISD offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, and central office hours will follow a regular 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule that week.
Thank you for staying connected with us this summer. I’m so excited for what’s ahead and grateful to share this journey with you!
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Martha Aguirre
Interim Superintendent, El Paso ISD
