Dear El Paso ISD,
As October comes to a close, I want to wish everyone a joyful and safe week as we celebrate the fall season. Whether your family enjoys Halloween festivities or simply looks forward to a cozy evening together, I hope you take time to make lasting memories and enjoy the cooler weather.
This week also marks the conclusion of our Superintendent Search community meetings, but you can still send us your input through Sunday, November 2 by clicking here. Your feedback is helping the Board of Trustees define the leadership qualities in the next superintendent. Our wonderful District deserves a leader who will continue guiding El Paso ISD toward a future of excellence and innovation and your voice matters.
We applaud our local partners for continuing to inspire our students in and out of the classroom. Last week, world boxing champion Stephanie Han visited students at Telles Academy, where she shared an inspiring message about resilience and overcoming adversity. Her story emphasized to our students that challenges can be powerful steppingstones on the path to success.
I want wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock, Texas this weekend. Luis Pereda of Austin, Andrew Truax of El Paso, Rodrigo Pinales and Humberto Serna of Coronado, and Emily Orr, Mike Villa, Richard Mendoza, Bryant Standage, Jacob Martinez, Frankie Medina, Sebastian Mendez, and Sebastian Camacho of Franklin will compete in the UIL Cross Country State Championship event today and tomorrow. Join us in cheering on these amazing athletes.
At Burges High School, senior Jesus Jasso is proving that perseverance knows no limits. Born with hearing loss in both ears, Jesus will represent Team USA at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo this November. His journey from local competitions to the international stage is a shining example of courage, determination, and Mustang pride.
Weāre also celebrating our Young Womenās STEAM Academy, which was recognized this week by UTEPās College of Liberal Arts for an incredible bilingual translation project. Led by Spanish teacher Mr. Arriaga, students collaborated with UTEP on a published translation of the play Los empeƱos de una casa. Their achievement reflects the deep partnership between our schools and higher education institutions, and the creativity of our young women leaders.
EPISD Families do not forget, our High School Program Nights are underway! These events are a wonderful opportunity for our students and their families to learn more about the exciting programs and pathways available across our high schools. To view the full schedule, visit episd.org/high-school-programs.
Finally, we are hiring! El Paso ISD will host a Special Education Job Fair on Thursday, November 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Professional Development Center (6500 Boeing Drive). We are looking for passionate teachers, paraprofessionals, and substitutes to join our Special Education team and make a difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs.
As we close out the month, let us continue celebrating our students, supporting one another, and staying focused on our shared commitment to excellence.
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Martha Aguirre
Interim Superintendent of Schools
