Each month, students vote for an Irvin teacher that goes above and beyond to make Irvin the best place to be!
Mrs. Mariel Bautista has been selected as September's Teacher of the Month!
What quality’s make a teacher extraordinary? If you asked students at Irvin high school, several would tell you that a teacher shouldn’t just teach but create a welcoming environment for every student. When anyone talks to Mrs. Bautista, they can’t help but feel a warm embrace from her positive attitude. This September Irvin came together and nominated Mrs. Bautista for teacher of the month.
For instance, when talking to one of Mrs. Bautista’s students she had this to say, “Mrs. Bautista has been the one teacher at Irvin that has showed me how to embrace my differences, she has not only been a teacher but also a mentor”- Ana Mejia 10th. Mrs. Bautista is not only a teacher for students but also a friend, even after high school many will look back and will be grateful for Mrs. Bautista.
Mariel Bautista grew up around photography because of her grandfather. Seeing her grandfather sparked an interest she hopes to ignite in her students. After her childhood she started high school in El Dorado. After high school Mariel went to college where she found a way to connect her love of teaching and journaling as a yearbook teacher. Now Mariel works as Irvin’s broadcasting and yearbook teacher. Even though she was once at El Dorado her home will always be at Irvin. When faced with the question what Mrs. Bautista hopes to achieve as a teacher this is what she has to say “I hope to inspire students to find their passion and pursue their goals though journalism”- Mariel Bautista. Mariel Bautista has truly left a mark in everybody hearts, and her story will be remembered at Irvin for years to come.
Congratulations Mrs. Bautista!
